Introduction: Health vs Wealth
I believe that good health is the greatest wealth anyone can claim—not a fat bank account, but robust, sound well-being. These days, I've noticed too many young people prioritizing wealth over health, which is not just shortsighted but downright dangerous.
Yes, a hefty bank balance is appealing, but not if it comes at the expense of your health or the exhaustion of organs desperately needing rest. True success should include both financial stability and physical well-being, not one at the cost of the other.
A Real-Life Wake-Up Call
This hit home for Mr. Reno recently when he suffered from Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. It felt like the world had lost all gravity; he couldn't hold down food or even a sip of water without purging everything from his stomach.
Every slight head movement turned his reality upside down, triggering violent nausea and vomiting. It was a harrowing experience—one he wouldn't wish on his worst enemy.
Desperate for relief, he rushed to the ENT clinic, only to find it packed with patients. He endured hours of waiting, reduced to silent prayers for the line to move faster.
The Lesson Learned
In the end, Mr. Reno learned a profound lesson: health truly is wealth. No matter how much riches you chase, poor health leaves you in dire straits.
Moments like this reveal a truth many ignore—your body is your first and most important investment.
Understanding BPPV (What It Really Means)
BPPV stands for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, a common inner ear disorder that causes sudden, intense episodes of vertigo (a spinning sensation) triggered by specific head movements.
• Benign means it's not life-threatening
• Paroxysmal refers to the brief attacks
• Positional indicates it's triggered by movement
• Vertigo describes the spinning dizziness
It is the most frequent cause of vertigo, affecting about 2.4% of people at some point—especially those over 50, women, and individuals with a history of head trauma or inner ear issues.
Causes of BPPV
BPPV occurs when tiny calcium carbonate crystals (called otoconia or “ear rocks”) become displaced from their normal position in the inner ear.
These crystals interfere with the body’s balance system, sending false signals to the brain.
Common triggers include:
• Head injury or trauma (even minor)
• Aging, as the crystals naturally weaken over time
• Inner ear infections or surgeries
• Prolonged bed rest
• Migraines in some cases
It is important to note that BPPV is not caused by tumors or strokes, although symptoms can sometimes feel similar, which is why proper diagnosis is essential.
Common Symptoms to Watch For
The hallmark of BPPV is brief vertigo spells lasting 15–60 seconds, often triggered by simple movements such as:
• Rolling over in bed
• Looking upward
• Bending down or standing quickly
Other symptoms include:
• Nausea and vomiting
• Nystagmus (involuntary eye movement)
• Imbalance or lightheadedness
While symptoms may go away on their own, they can return unexpectedly if not properly managed.
How BPPV Is Diagnosed
Doctors typically diagnose BPPV through:
Patient history and symptom description
The Dix-Hallpike maneuver, a simple test used to trigger symptoms and observe eye movement
Additional imaging (like MRI or CT scans) if needed to rule out more serious conditions
Early diagnosis helps prevent unnecessary fear and ensures proper treatment.
The Bigger Picture: Hidden Illnesses
So many people walk around harboring hidden illnesses, convinced they're fine—until one day, those ailments strike with full force.
When they do, the wealth you've chased becomes meaningless child's play.
This highlights an important reality:
Prevention is always cheaper and easier than treatment.
Practical Health Advice for Everyday Life
Start investing in your health the same way you invest in money.
• Choose health insurance over luxury spending
• Replace junk food with balanced, nutritious meals
• Drink plenty of water daily
• Aim for at least 7–8 hours of quality sleep
• Engage in regular physical activity
• Eat protein-rich foods like eggs, along with fresh vegetables
These small, consistent habits can significantly reduce the risk of many illnesses.
A Final Reflection
Make health your top priority over chasing the bags.
Because in the end:
Money cannot buy back lost health
Success is meaningless without the ability to enjoy it
A healthy body gives you the freedom to pursue everything else
Conclusion: A Warning Worth Taking Seriously
HEALTH IS WEALTH—BE WARNED!
Your body is not a machine you can replace. Treat it with care, invest in it daily, and it will carry you further than money ever can.
Author’s Note:
This piece is inspired by a real-life experience involving someone I know. He was fine one moment, and the next, we were rushing him to the hospital. It was during medical examinations that we discovered he had several underlying health issues.
That experience prompted me to write this article. After doing some research, I put this together to help others who may be experiencing similar symptoms find useful information and guidance.
I also hope this reaches those who truly need it. If you find it helpful, consider sharing it.
Thank you.
